Description
Like most craftspeople, Anton rarely finds the time to make furniture for himself. Which makes the amount of work he put into this desk even more impressive.
Inspired to experiment with materials and push the boundaries of structure and design, Anton selected pieces of Fiddleback Blackwood considered too twisted and irregular for orthodox furniture making.
By slicing and rearranging the wood, he altered its natural features into an intriguingly patterned surface. The contrast of the lighter sapwood became an intentional design element, creating a spine-like detail that runs through the piece to bring a sense of movement and cohesion.
“This piece was inspired by the Sand Crawler from Star Wars, with its angular, industrial presence. The cantilevered desk is completely stable and fully functional, a balance of illusion and engineering. It’s a rare and personal piece for me—one that serves a practical purpose while also reflecting my approach to design: embracing imperfections, playing with contrast, and defying convention.”
